Isometric RPG
Genre
Isometric RPGs are games that take an isometric perspective on the game world and apply it to traditional tabletop RPG mechanics. An isometric view is one that sees 3 planes at equal 120° angles that results in showing a more detailed view than one from a topdown perspective. Many Western RPGs in the late 1990s and early 2000s utilized this technique, as it best translated traditional tabletop methods of gameplay to video games. Games such as Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Fallout and Fallout 2 were released during this period. These games were often PC exclusive releases, coining the term CRPG.
In the mid 2010s, Isometric RPGs have seen somewhat of a revival, with the remakes of the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series, Pillars of Eternity, Torment: Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2.
