Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures

Telltale's Wallace and Gromit is a point-and-click adventure game which plays similarly to their take on the Sam & Max series. Wallace & Gromit is a claymation animation by British company Aardman. The graphical style is well realised, with thumbprints visible on the character models. The voice acting and dialogue is very Northern British so could be jarring to those who aren't familiar with the dialect.

Wallace is a keen inventor and has an obsession with cheese. Gromit the dog is his loyal companion and is handy using tools. However, he doesn't have the ability to speak, but communicates only by body language. You get to control both characters but you only switch when as the story sees fit.

You can use the a keyboard and mouse, or controller to navigate Wallace and Gromit. You progress through the game by picking up items, and using them to overcome problems. I felt that the game did a good job of making your objectives clear, either by stating it in dialogue or giving Wallace a checklist of tasks. The puzzles always seemed logical even if they were comical.

In the first episode, Wallace is short on cash and hopes his new honey business takes off. A massive order comes in, but he must work out how to get the bees producing to complete it.

In the second episode, terrible weather causes the residents to cancel their summer holiday plans. Wallace comes up with the idea of recreating a beach in his basement and having the residents pay for entry. However, the customers argue amongst themselves and Wallace must act as the mediator.

In the third episode, stray dogs roam the streets. A philanthropist opens a fun-fair to raise cash for a new Dog's Home. He isn't quite who he says he is, and Wallace must save the day.

In the fourth and final episode, Wallace is invited to join the golf club. The policeman states that he is in the process of shutting it down because the golf club has no golf course! Wallace must find the missing deeds in order to find the club's golf course to prevent the closure.

Episodes are stand-alone but the returning characters and references mean you may find more enjoyment if you have played them as a series. I seemed to enjoy the first two episodes more than the final two, but it's a decent series overall.
