Vexx

Vexx is from the same people who made Turok, but unfortunately unlike Turok it didn't get much attention, especially on the Gamecube, which already had Super Mario Sunshine. It does follow the same 3d Mario template, with the player collecting hearts instead of stars. There is a darker and more mature vibe, and this is also reflected in the combat system; Vexx is capable of some cool moves, but the non-boss enemies are all pushovers and not very interesting so it's kind of a waste. I think the real strength of this game is in the world designs, with some very unique, almost breathtaking landscapes. The art direction is just wonderful, and it is obvious that a lot of love and care and attention went into the making of this game. I think that is ultimately what Vexx still worth tracking down a copy of and playing today. At the very least, it doesn't deserve to be ignored and forgotten.
