Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

This game would be an easy 5/5 if i was reviewing this back in 2016-2018, but they have made so many unnecessary changes its not the same anymore and never will be

I played this game in maybe 2017 and then again in about 2020. I never got super into it but I had a friend who did so I played sometimes. I definitely liked it more closer to release because of it's ease and simplicity of learning how to play. When I played it again years later it was like a whole new game and I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in the game. Characters, guns, skins, customizations, gadgets, game modes. The process of trying to learn everything was so painful because of the skill gap between me and other players. I didn't have any time to learn things like the map because I was too busy trying to stay alive.

you absolutely need friends to play this game with and preferably very laid-back friends. I stopped playing it as frequently because I lost my group and was forced to solo queue with the absolute toxic insanity. if you do it like that you will want to garotte yourself.
otherwise, developers listen to feedback and make changes that actually balance the game pretty frequently. player skill outweighs operator abilities as long as not a shield operator. in-game purchases are cosmetics or quick-levelers, nothing changes gameplay.

The 1st overarching rule of Siege is that any character dies to 1 bullet to the head. Whether it be from a rifle, a pistol, a sniper rifle - anything but a shotgun's buckshot (or birdshot) kills instantly if it connects to a tango's head.

The 2nd rule is that most guns will kill (or down) you in 3-4 shots. This is a game where Time-to-Kill (TTK) is extremely low. A game where you will see the enemy players, alive, for less then 2 seconds.

Siege is a game where, the Predator vs. Prey dynamic can get flipped on its head within milliseconds. It's a game where breaching (and destroying) cover is integral to its main gameplay loop. As much as Ubisoft has intentionally/unintentionally fucked up some of the game's dynamics and flow, it's still a very unique take on the tactical, multiplayer shooter genre.

I've played it through it's entire life span, It's ubisoft they'll take a few steps forward then go back 3, they have issues from like the 3rd year still in the game years later, it's insane. It's a dogshit game, but there is something that keeps making me come back.

had the overwatch problem but at least overwatch was more fun to begin with
