Velvet Crowe is an ordinary girl living in a small forest community with her ailing brother Laphicet and her tutor Arthur. One evening a strange phenomenon known as the Scarlet Night causes demons to become frenzied and destroy Velvet's village. She vows to have vengeance and sets off to right the wrongs of that fateful Scarlet Night.
As much as I like Tales of... games, they have impossible long dungeons of repeating tile sets that really grates your nerves after twenty hours of play time. This Tales game in particular tried to do an anti-villain storyline with its main protagonist, but it just collapses into "Save the World from Evil" once all is said and done. And...of course....the final dungeon is two-three hours of wandering through repeating tile sets that really grates on your nerves!
Not a disappointing game, but it's still a by-the-numbers JRPG.

Pretty great, but held back by a bit of technical jank, some questionable design choices here and there, and the fact that it has to attach itself to ToZ's world. Props to Berseria though, it manages to retroactively improve that game's world while having its own compelling story. Still, something about that irks me.
Replaying this after Arise out of a weird compulsion and hoo boy the combo system is the not good. Hard carried by the story and characters, this game. Just... remake Abyss and this in the style of Arise (the 2 best stories in the series) and never look back.
maybe i didn't give this one more of a chance, but i couldn't get past the village at the start of the game. it's such a slow start and the characters didn't manage to get me hooked to the story. the combat wasn't that great either. i'll rate it a D for now, but i'll probably try it again in the future.
it's one of those cases where i'd just prefer if they made it an anime instead of a game. great story, but the combat and everything else is just not that fun imo.
