Fun, but ultimately flawed beat-em-up with a wild difficulty curve. When it flows well it plays great but the controls can be clunky at times. Had a fun afternoon with it but tried following up at the point where I got stuck and did not have fun. Overall good game.

Training mode be like "here's a frame perfect Mega Shitfuck combo to bust out real quick while you're struggling to process dealing with every one of the 5-7 enemies on screen"
Finally, I feel like taxing heavy attacks with health is only clever in theory, since you can get nigh-unavoidably fucked with that conditional health decrease in a thousand ways the moment you go for it. The most likely thing that'll achieve with a new player like me is making them avoid using heavy attacks almost entirely.
SOR remake is the ultimate old-school beat em up and I love it, but this games combat system is stellar and has depth to it that no belt scroller has, it makes it almost feel like an entirely different type of game despite all the obvious superficial similarities.
old school beat em ups for me are my favorite games to play when I just want to turn off my brain, which I cant do as much with this one because the enemies are designed in such a way that you need to pay attention and be familiar with your whole moveset to get the satisfaction of destroying the enemies.
Agreed. As I've sunk more time into this game, even after my comment, the combat in this game is the best I've come across in the genre. There really isn't any allowance for button mashing unless you intend to be punished. The SOR Remake is a lot of fun, but this has been the best beat em up ive played yet.
Depthful and fulfilling combat, solid score (all of the Koshiro tracks are the best ones, especially the title track) and I love the art style. I am used to faster paced beatem ups, but I guess that would ruin the purpose of each character, and each one has ways to cover ground quickly if needed. I really enjoyed playing Shredder's Revenge, but everybody's right - this has a higher ceiling in terms of replayability and a more rewarding combat system.
One of the best beat em ups I've ever played. Excellent replayability due to difficulty settings, character variety, and combo system. Great solo or co op. There's even a PvP mode.
Also I main Cherry (formerly Blaze) and she got notable buffs over time. There was just something different to the balance before, and yea its a shame how nerfed Blaze was coz she was wildly fun
