Skullgirls takes place in the fictional Canopy Kingdom, a country reminiscent of 1940s post-war United States, which is ruled by the Renoir royal family and plagued by the Medici mafia.
A friend of mine is in love with this game, and he's actually the one that introduced it to us, when we'd visit his apartment once a week, he'd play this with us at times, of course I wasn't really into fighting games, but he and another friend of mine were crazy about fighting games. I actually enjoyed this more than your typical fighting games like Tekken or Street Fighter, they played the latest Tekken a few times with us on our game nights, but I just couldn't get into. Skullgirls seemed pretty smooth, had a catchy soundtrack and bright graphics, and of course sexy girls with short skirts and tight tops beating the shit out of each other. I mean yeah the game is a bit fan servicey, but its a fighting game and the genre is known to do that. Its a solid fighting game that isn't too hard to grasp, and isn't as crazy or difficult as a game like Marvel Vs Capcom 3, but at the same time the game gets awfully repetitive, there are only like 8 playable characters, and I think 12 with the DLC characters, with one of those DLC characters almost being a reskin of another character. Playing with the same backgrounds and music gets old fast, and its more one of those games to play with friends, and even then its definitely not the best fighting game around, I mean lets be honest the main reason to play this is for the graphic style and being able to play as sexy girls fighting each other. But I guess some people are really into this, my friend is in the top 100 ranked Skull Girl players in the World on PC and travels around to play tournaments for the games plus has a side job where he commentates on the game.

Stellar music, great art direction and fine enough mechanics...but I suck at these.

I think Skullgirls Encore should be it's own seperate game page. While 2nd encore is the version sold now everywhere, on PS3 Skullgirls and Skullgirls Encore are seperate releases. As Encore was put out after Lab Zero left their publishing deal. I do happen to own both as Encire was given for free to Skullgirls early adopters and was the version where it expanded beyond the original 8 cast.
This was the first fighting game that made me want to just grind fighting games. Too bad none of my friends wanted to play, probably should get back into this again sometime it's pretty perfect
i have little stake in this game (i do think fully 2D fighters are and will always be the peak of the genre) but this game is goated for making chuds go nuclear. gamers are such whiny babies man.
