Solid first entry to the Silent Hill legacy. Some of the puzzles are really obtuse to the point that I don't think anyone could be shamed for consulting GameFAQS along with it controlling very much like a PSX era fully 3D action game but everything else is pretty solid, including some of Harry's very dry commentary on examining background objects that will give you a sensible chuckle or two.
People will say go straight to Silent Hill 2 but I think you'd be missing out on a neat little overlooked gem.

Playing this with the radio off and only using the flashlight to grab items, look at the map and unlock doors makes the game genuinely pretty thrilling and scary. I imagine it would be the intended way to play were bullets not so plentiful.
the boss fights and voice acting are rough and maybe the story is a little too convoluted for its own good, but man if this game doesn't have a fantastic soundtrack and killer visuals for its time
