Shadow Complex

Wears its influences on its sleeve, but still carves out its own identity along the way. Shadow Complex starts out as a very typical Metroidvania but throws enough enemies, environments and hazards your way to throw a spanner in the works, complemented by a pretty dandy twin-stick setup for the combat, with lock-in tweaked to be just right. By the end, the opening up of the environment for finding everything makes more sense, and the potential for sequence-breaking is intentionally laid upon so as to give you some extra fun with that story, which is otherwise banal. Unessential for non-fans, worth it for Metroid lovers.

Shadow complex is a metroidvania in which you pretty much play as a dudebro trying to save his girlfriend. What set it apart from the rest is the detailed environments powered by Unreal Engine, as well as the implementation of 3d shooting into the mix.

Its a really linear game, with a compass guiding your way to the next objective so you dont get lost. The metroidvania elements only really come into play if you are going to search for secrets, which is advisable since they make the game considerably easier and its the most entertaining part of the game.

The gameplay is a bit clunky, but pretty enjoyable for the most part. There are quite a few boss fights in the game and these prove to be really challenging. Still you are completly over powered towards the end of the game.

The story has some of the worst voice acting i have heard in a long time, and its cliche after cliche. Its best to ignore it.

Its not the best metroidvania out there, but its a solid and enjoyable game.
