This has a lot of really great qualities to it, including one of the most original and interesting RPG combat systems I've ever seen. Not to mention that a lot of the changes to the narrative, while goofy, are a lot of fun and make for a really neat elseworld-style take on the original game. That said, it gets fucking exhausting after a while and some of the later game's dungeons are an absolute chore. And for as cool as the combat is when you start, it becomes clear about 50% in that you've seen all it's ever going to throw at you, and everything that doesn't directly advance the plot just starts to feel tedious. Play it, but for the love of god use an emulator that lets you fast forward.
