Pocky & Rocky 2 tries to mix up the formula of the first game with way more partners who have unique powers. Best of all, you can team up with the characters who all have unique team-up moves and giant Final-Fantasy-esque summon power attacks when Pocky tosses (!) her partner at a boss.
The game offers a ton of new power-ups and even a shop system (that had a strategy guide for sale for bosses!) . It also features more levels than the original Pocky & Rocky to boot. There are even breaks from the scrolling where it becomes a straight-up Galaga-esque shooter for variety.
Now all this extra stuff squeezed onto a Super NES cart comes with a price, the music and graphics are actually down a notch from the original game. It still has a lot of charm and fun, and I would recommend it to people who loved the first game or others just looking for fun games of this era beyond the usual suspects of classic games and series.
