Pitfall!

This is one of those arcade games that I'm sure was massively popular upon its initial release but has since been outclassed by much better titles from the likes of Nintendo and Sega over the years. It's a basic game where you navigate throughout these basic levels that can be amusing for a few minutes but wears out its novelty very quickly due to how primitive the graphics, gameplay and sound design is. You're better off playing the Mayan adventure if you're looking for a good game from the pitfall franchise as this game comes as bonus content from that game.

It's a very rudimentary action platformer, and it's very easy: Not a lot of threats are after you and your purpose is to go as far as you can and rack up points. As you practice jumping over logs, gators, lakes, you eventually get used to it so the game exceeds its welcome after 10 minutes.

The Atari 2600 release is the definitive one. Somehow the C64 port has tougher response times I can't quite put into words.

The Atari 5200 port is completely identical to the 2600 save for improved and more colourful graphics. It's a welcome substitute to the 2600 version.

Similar to many games on the Atari 2600, Pitfalll! has aged very poorly. Although it was ahead of its competitors in terms of amount of content, graphics and gameplay, today it is essentially equivalent to the average flash game, albeit with cruder graphics. There's nothing to accomplish here beyond getting as high a score as possible, and while that might sound fine, the gameplay is incredibly simple and repetitive. It ends up becoming more of a test of endurance than one of skill, the main question being -- how long can you play this before you get tired of it? Answer that and you've found your high score.

Play as an adventurer and swing through crocodile pits, pits with water, and pits without water. You will fall and die when you fall on those pits. You will also die due to the local wildlife. There are some treasures to collect, by i think its pretty much up to trial and error or using a walkthrough in order to actually find them. And thats really what makes the game so frustrating, because the basic gameplay of jumping and swinging rope is actually quite fun. But the awkward path you need to take to get to any treasure is very frustrating to find on your own. Because of that, it has aged pretty badly, and i find it hard to recommend it to anyone.
