Title
Some of the most interesting games I have played always seem to be a walking sim of some kind which is strange due to how limiting the genre can be in the gameplay department. This game is no exception and I commend it for painting a very intriguing narrative in the span of around 40 min. Still, it left me feeling that it was more akin to a short movie rather than a video game. The bones are there for a more interesting continuation that I doubt will ever be made. I loved its weirdness but desired more from it ultimately.

Walking the walk
A walking sim that lasts about 40 minutes and sees you jumping from section to section. Its a unique, surrealistic atmosphere, thats really the main appeal of the game, boolstered by its great ambient soundtrack. Unfortunatly some of its sections also last for way too long, namely the driving sections, and the dialogue is mostly gibberish that could also have been cut down.

Some nice ideas, but the execution and overall end product is rather mediocre.

Employs the PSX inspired low-poly aesthetic to craft a dire, decrepit world. The whole game is drenched in toxic hues, evoking a sense of derelictness and disrepair, further reinforced by the general emptiness of the levels. The underlying story is obscured by smash cuts and shifting perspectives.

    I would've liked this more if the driving bits weren't so boring and didn't drag on like they do. Otherwise, interesting game with a terrific soundtrack.

    Captivated me during the short game time with its uncertain atmosphere and beautiful artstyle/soundtrack. In an interview, one of the developers said that it is an anti-walking sim because they give the player different mechanics like driving cars and taking pictures, which made me chuckle a bit. Paratopic has no real gameplay. Whether I drive a car along an empty roadway for minutes while listening to the radio or snap a few photos in the woods doesn't change the fact that I inevitably end up at the predetermined destination without challenge. That's not a shame, but it's the truth.
