Overlord II

The premise of the game definitely looked appealing as it looked like a mix of Fable and Pikmin. However, this game doesn't hold up to either of its inspirations. The combat seemed enjoyable enough at the beginning, but as the game progressed, the inclusion of more minion varieties and upgrade of spells didn't feel a big enough of a change for the gameplay. The other minions that weren't brown were basically the equivalent of hm slaves in Pokemon that you had to carry along for puzzles.

And the puzzles are around every corner you take which usually take a good while to slog through. Not that their hard, its just walking can feel very slow and theirs typically enemies slowing you down even more. For a game in which the premise is basically being a demi-god, it feels silly to have to constantly do puzzles rather than steamroll through people and places.

When you do finally get through the puzzles, however, reaching the key points in the story can be very enjoyable where you actually do feel like some kind of an overlord. But yeah, getting to those points took about 2-3 hours to get to and that's pretty much what kept me playing was the promise of some kind of actual fun. As for the story, it did have some funny moments, but just like the rest of the game felt a bit too few and far between to be consistently enjoyable.
