There's no more interesting way to study a language than to play video games in that language. After playing some simpler games in Japanese, I decided that I hated myself enough to try to play an epic role-playing game with lots of storytelling. I don't regret it. I logged over 100 hours into this game (probably about 40 of those were spend looking up kanji and word meanings) and enjoyed every moment. The story, as much as I could understand, was great. The graphics were fantastic even for a DS game, and the gameplay was really enhanced by having to use the Magic Master book to make it through some areas of the game. You'd think it'd be annoying to have to reference a physical, 300-page book just to play a game, but it really made me feel more involved and more invested. It's a nice gimmick that non-Japanese speaking users are really missing out on.
Anyway, great game.
