Mario and friends get into an argument over who among them is "the biggest star, the Super Star". Being caught in the middle of this argument, Toad suggests they all go on adventures in order to determine who is the Super Star. These adventures take the form of several different board game style locations, in which Mario and company must compete against each other in mini-games while also trying to collect more stars and coins than one another. Whoever wins is then declared to be the Super Star.

Title
The one that started it all. I still remember getting blistered palms playing this back in the day. Whilst not bad, Mario Party's lustre has faded, most of all because Mario Party 2 did everything bigger and better, making it redundant.

Perfectly Flawed
Once you learn the minigames you can turn off the pre-screen and enter a crazed flow state. This game is brutally unfair and chaotic in a way that still gives this game its own unique identity.

Made obsolete by Mario Party 2
During the second semester of my Senior year in college my friends were going through a Mario Party phases where we'd play Mario party all the time and almost every weekend we'd play a game or 2 of Mario Party, and 2 was always are go to game. But sometimes to spice things up we'd do Mario Party 1 and 3, and this pretty much feels like an inferior Mario Party 2. The mini games aren't as good, the controls feel a bit awkward, the maps aren't as memorable, and it just feels more awkward. I mean Mario Party 2 improved so much that this just feels like a footnote in the Mario Party series. Not to say this wasn't good for its time, but there's no longer any reason to play this one.

    I hate making a claim like this, but I can't see how Mario Party 1 is better than a majority of the other MP titles, aside from having hardcore nostalgia for it.
