Engage in a core roleplaying experience, and forge the destiny of a new world seeping with magic, and filled with riches, lost secrets, and fantastic creatures. With diplomacy, deception and force, become part of a living, evolving world - influence its course and shape your story.
It didn't take me long to realize that Greedfall was a game that fell in my comfort zone, with influences from WRPGs like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition which are some of my favorite games. It really fills that void in the genre, it seems that its been a while that we haven't had a big game in that genre.
While I can acknowledge some of the criticism of the game, for me most of these things did not bother me too much. The worst is probably the action combat which is a little repetitive, it's got a good system with the armor and all but there's not enough things to do beside land a few hits and dodge (or shoot your gun from afar). The game does include most of the typical things in WRPG from a big world to explore, crafting, a skill tree, lots of loot, etc... I think where the game really excels however is diplomacy and the reputation system among factions and party members. You'll always have to take some decisions that will affect one or the other, so you'll eventually have to choose who you want to favor in the world.
I think the game addresses well the theme of racism towards natives, the more developed factions that have a more monarchic system are always trying to abuse them and show them no respect and inferior in life, a nice parallel with modern times and things that are still happening today (to a lesser degree maybe). I've enjoyed the story overall and it does very well the world building and lore, the natives all have their own language with special words that you'll eventually learn to figure out what they mean. The game is a little long at times (it took me 36 hours to finish it), some of the quests feel similar to others but they generally all include big storylines around them which seems like taking cues right out of The Witcher 3.
The graphics look pretty stunning on the Series X at 4K, I know Spiders didn't have an unlimited budget but the models are done very well and quite impressive that could rival most of the Ubisoft big titles for example. Some of the environments are repeated (like most castles are built exactly the same), but I accept it since the team did have to cut somewhere. I had a great time with the game and would recommend it to WRPG fans, for me it was very satisfying but I can accept that some will complain about the lack of depth sometimes but I thought it was more fleshed out than The Outer Worlds that came out around the same time.

definitly a step up from technomancer, but the combat is really terrible, and the acting iffy. its not great by any means, but there is a lack of good AA / AAA RPGs, so this is one of the best alternatives out now
Yeah, it seems like a nice step forward for this developer, from the little I've played, but I definitely think part pf the reason it's getting as much positive attention as it is, has to do with the total lack of good WRPG's available, atm.
I have high hopes that The Outer Worlds will be a legit good game, though, and finally give fans of the genre something to celebrate (maybe not great combat, but it should be fine for Fallout 3/New Vegas fans, and everything else looks great.)
Wish it went further with its themes, but this one has something compelling about it that's tough to pin down. Nice art direction. Flat ending(s). Hopefully their next game gets a bigger budget.
