Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir is a faithful remake to a fault. It keeps the frustrating navigation of the menus from the Famicom version of the game that wore down on me really quickly, because the way to advance the story at times was extremely unclear and often frustrating, because there'd be so many options and you'd have to do things in specific order for things to finally click and to move on. The game would have heavily benefitted from just being streamlined in this aspect and made to feel a bit more like Ace Attorney.
Despite that though, if you can get around that, or just look up a guide online that tells you the precise order of actions (which will save you a ton of headache, I recommend) there's a very interesting murder mystery story behind the layer of obnoxiousness that is actually navigating the game. The story still holds up amazingly well today, and seeing it reimagined the way it was, was very nice. I'm glad that this series was introduced to new people, and maybe if it had been done earlier, we could have had Ayumi Tachibana in Smash all those years ago, perhaps with an arc similar to Ace Attorney's?
The dream of Ayumi Tachibana in Smash is probably long gone, but Famicom Detective Club reaching a wider western audience has happened now, and we can enjoy that.
