Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard

Etrian Odyssey II is a pretty good game. I'm a fan of blobber games, and this is a great tribute to old-school RPGs. The Etrian series is famous for using the bottom screen of the DS as a map making tool. It's a great feature, and II does it better than I did. There are a lot more mapping options, which allows you to a build your own map that more closely resembles the actual design of the dungeon.

The soundtrack is pretty kicking. The gameplay is addictive. Etrian is bascially just a long dungeon crawl, and it is really satisfying to continue pushing ever deeper into the labyrinth. The combat is fairly standard for JRPGs, but with more classes and more unique builds than most. With how hard the game is, crafting a team is really important. Seeing the synergy you can create between party members is memorable. Though I have heard future games in the series are better, I still believe that this one is worth checking out for any JRPG fans out there.

Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard added a few minor tweaks and fixes (including an autobattle toggle and QOL updates) to remedy the original, but mostly offered more of the same with less interesting level design, story, and gameplay.
