Boy is this a generic Disney platformer, granted it isn't bad by any means, but it's clearly taking inspiration from much better games of the day (or rather taking inspiration from the 90s pitfall game five years after its initial release.)
The biggest issue here are the graphics, I know Disney games aren't powerhouses when it comes to presentation, however these character models are grotesque to look at even by late 90s standards. This isn't helped by the soundtrack which are just instrumental versions of the Phil Collins soundtrack, meaning we have pseudo 80s production with a jungle element to it that is in desperate need of Phils vocals as they were what made the songs so iconic in the film. What little voice acting that’s here is passable, I've heard worse from Disney games but emperor’s new groove the game this ain't. What saves this game is the pitfall style gameplay as the game copies the elements from the Mayan adventure and adds the tree surfing that was used in the film as a mechanic to spice up the level design. There are also two chase sequences in the game, both are terrible due to how hard it is to dodge stuff in them, not helped by having collectibles in them that are necessary for unlocking bonus content. These collectables are in all the levels and are as generic here as they are in every Disney platformer from the late 90s. Letters of our hero’s name? Check. Coins (for no discernible reason)? Check. Powerups that affect our attacks? Check. The only unique element are the chimp sketches which stand in as the concept are for this game, although this was released mere months prior to the DVD of the film, so I'm not sure how necessary they ultimately were here.
This game is average, a useful distraction for a Disney fan but nowhere near as innovative as the film it's based on.

Quite a decent little platformer, borrowing liberally from Donkey Kong Country and helped along by Disney production value. It's marred by minor camera and control issues, and though its 2.5D setting spices things up a little bit, it suffers from repetition.
