Commander Keen: Aliens Ate My Baby Sitter!

This game was infamous back in the day due to all of its glitches, as such it does fall short of the other two games in the goodbye galaxy trilogy even if none of these glitches are enough to take away from what a great title this is.

You can read what I said about Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy for a more in-depth look at why I love these games, but to summarise we gave a creative premise for a game (the title says it all) great graphics and fun and addictive 2d gameplay which is among the best the 90s have to offer. What's different here is how the enemies offer new mechanics unique to this entry, this includes being able to stun our hero either by bashing the floor so hard it disorientates him or by reflecting his neural stunner shot back at him to temporarily incapacitate him. It's because of these interactions that the game is prone to glitches as it creates issues which lead to frequent clipping through environments as well as cheap deaths from enemies who take advantage of keen’s incapacitated state. There's also a ton of reused assets from the other two titles in the trilogy, mainly from the Armageddon machine as sound effects and locations are used verbatim here without much creativity. Again, this isn't a deal breaker and more just a sign Id software and apogee were running at straws for inspiration for the franchise.

It's a solid game that admittedly doesn't live up to its predecessors but is nonetheless a worthy addition to the franchise. It's absence from the keen collection has been felt as due to legal reasons, it's currently lost media that can only be found in torrent sites.
