It ain't got shit on the NES Bomberman, that much is sure. It's fifty randomly generated levels with one type of enemy and you need to destroy them by placing up to maximum five bombs silmutaneously. It's really fun the first couple of levels, but there is no enemy variety or powerups to take the game to another level, save for an odd bonus level where you enter into a continuous bombing mode.

A very different game from what people today know as Bomberman. I mean, it's still maze bombing, but Bomberman himself looks completely different, the way the mazes are laid-out is very different, there are no powerups, and it's really hard. The movement is weird as it isn't tile-based, so sometimes when you lay a bomb it'll explode only partway down the hall it's adjacent to and the rest will go into the corner of the wall. The mazes also seem to be randomly generated, and when you die you go to a different maze, even though it's still the same stage number. I couldn't manage to get very far without using save states, but it's not a bad game at all, and a very interesting start to the series.
