I've been listening to "I'm Not In Love" for years because you hear it all over classic rock radio and whatnot, but I only started to dig into 10cc's discography about a month back or so. Can't believe I didn't get into these guys sooner, because they're very much up my alley. I've listened to Original Soundtrack and How Dare You, the latter greatly impressing me. I really like some of their quirkier tunes like "The Film of My Love" and "I Wanna Rule the World" but also their poppy numbers like "I'm Mandy Fly Me." I'm planning on giving Sheet Music a listen soon, but their first album didn't do much for me besides the doo wop pastiches. Is Deceptive Bends or any of the later albums worth listening to?
I've also been drawing some comparisons with XTC, and particularly How Dare You. I actually listened to one Godley and Creme album (L) but thought it was a bit mediocre. Maybe I'll give it another shot.
I listened to L, actually. It was decent and I loved "Foreign Accents" but I also thought it was a bit average. I'll give it another shot. As for 10cc, I know "Feel the Benefit" off Deceptive Bends which is an awesome tune so I'll give the whole album a listen eventually. I definitely need to give Sheet Music a shot very soon, though.
Do you know The dB's? I glanced through your ratings, and it seems like they're a band up your alley. In a way, they're in the same neighborhood as Big Star and R.E.M. but also new wave acts like XTC, Squeeze, and Elvis Costello. Give that first album I sent you a listen if you have the time!
