the way I rate games is threefold:

—technical quality: to what extent the devs have achieved (or surpassed) the goals they apparently have set to themselves?
—creativity: have the devs done anything new or interesting? If not (clichés are not bad), how well did they do the "usual"?
—enjoyment: how much did I actually enjoy what I've played?

the scores I assign through the stars are a reflection of one of the first two, or of an average between the two. I try to avoid reflecting my enjoyment on them, and placing it only into the review texts; one can't always avoid doing that though.
