Although I disagree with you, I think that is a fair assessment. I don't think any of the songs are supposed to have massive these build-ups like guitar-based post-rock, though. I've always thought of Ulver's music as pensive even if some of their catalogue doesn't come across that way, so I think that's why people like to attach the "neoclassical" label. I highly doubt there's any true composing done on A Quick Fix of Melancholy, but I could be wrong. The "new age" tag is something I hadn't previously considered, but I think that's warranted. I guess I was more concerned about your judgment of a record based on a perception of what it's supposed to be rather than what it is, but if you found the music boring, then I can't change your mind, and that's a legitimate reaction.
Right on the money with Satantango. I always thought "pretentious" was supposed to mean "claiming to have qualities it did not, particularly by way of intelligence." I don't think Satantango's putting on any sort of airs at all, personally.

I look forward to reading more.
