Would-be metal musicologist turned instead to working for a living to support my family. I've been obsessed particularly with power metal since discovering it after I graduated high school (2006 or so). I'm now a long-time metal critic, part time metal record label employee, and general power metal fanatic who also dabbles in prog, heavy, and some melodic death metal.
I'm an especially big fan of Swedish power metal, especially the "golden age" (1997 - 2004), and consider myself something of an authority on the subject in particular.
I consider it my job to root out all possible power metal and make educated recommendations to get more people hooked on this subgenre, which inspires and energizes me like no other.
Pet peeves: Mis-categorization of music, apathy regarding the value of musical classification, listeners who are "stuck in the past" and think that nothing of worth has been released in the last x years (even worse if the statement is "nothing good has happened since the 80's"), people who listen to an album once and rate it without remembering or being able to discuss its contents, and the particular kind of fanboy that rates numerous albums at 4.5 or 5/5, but cannot critically assess their favorites(there is no perfection in music).
