My ratings may lean towards the 3.5-4.5 side because I only really seek out music that sounds appealing to me (RYM has made this process much easier). Plus its hard to finish an album that doesn't hold some level of my interest. I'll only rate albums/EPs that I have sat through entirely.
My main interests when it comes to music are psychedelic/garage/folk and everything in between. I love a good punk sound too. I'm also becoming more and more interested in spiritual/ECM style jazz along with ambient music. If its a rock or fusion album from 1964-1969 I'm immediately and especially intrigued. All in all, I like interesting sounds which are new and often foreign to me but also familiar and relatable; most of the music I love has a pop sensibility with an experimental side. Like I mentioned before, I never seek out music that seems like it won't appeal to me.
Generally speaking, I tend to prefer reading and writing reviews that don't try to be overly sentimental. I'm more interested in finding out more about the music within a release rather than personal stories surrounding the album. That being said, there are some great story tellers on this site...
