"Considering Future's success, I'm forced to believe most people agree with Flash's view that his music works as long as production takes center stage"
Nah, I just love Future's vocals. The way he uses autotune is wonderful; most people use it to smooth over the flaws in their voices but he uses it more like a magnifying glass, emphasising the faults in his passionate yells and forcing you to accept him as he is. I love a lot of his rawer rapping too, especially on that first track; he might not have the most (or, really, any) technical skill but the way he builds up to an eventual constant-hype crescendo is amazing. My friend calls him an avant-gardist and I think he might be right. Certainly he's one of my favourite vocalists currently going
"his unique use of autotune is so central to what he has to offer as an artist that if his strategy of forcing the listener to accept him as he is fails [and it does, with me,] there's little else left to enjoy from the album."
Certainly. That's why he's so utterly polarising: if you don't go for the vocals there is very little there to appreciate about him. Perhaps he'll grow on you but there's no shame if he doesn't, he ain't for everyone by any means.
Thanks so much for all the great reviews of many almost unrated D&B releases. Been reading through them and finding a bunch of great stuff. Couldn't agree with you less on some of the more minimal releases but I really like seeing your different perspective on them. Keep up the great work!
Se a banda acabar de vez, devemos fazer outra edição depois.
Abraço!

Yeah, I'm into Samurai, Exit (output has been a bit weak though recently), Subtle Audio and Pinecone Moonshine.
