It's slow. It's sludgy. It's one of Ministry's best albums, partially because it's something DIFFERENT! I bet all you whiny fanboys who panned this when it came out wish that Ministry would do something different *now*, huh?
I honestly love this album. I know I said in another review that "The Land of Rape and Honey" was Ministry's peak, but that was before I heard this. It's still definitely Ministry, but it's a step further away from Slayer and a step closer towards, say, Godflesh, if I were to compare it to something.
The crushing, heavy sound is wonderfully evil-sounding in places, and the synth, though used sparsely, is great (see: the beautiful use of piano-sounding synth in "The Fall"). The harmonica solo in the title track is one of my favorite Ministry moments, and that goes double for the wacky, weird riffing in parts of "Reload".
I hate Ministry fans and the music press for attacking this when it came out. I blame them for convincing Al to make "Psalm 69" again five more times before giving up on Ministry, and would have loved to hear a more natural evolution from this point rather than more forced "hurr hurr HxC" stupidity. Oh, what could have been...

Hey man, thank you so much for pointing out some of the remix work. I'm a bit behind on completing the Foetus list, but with the help I'm getting from you guys, it gets me back on my horse. :)
Good to see there are other Thirlwell fans/connosieurs. I'll be checking out your stuff shortly.
