I dunno, tracks like Dies Irae and "Tongues of Lies" are way heavier than the average thrash of the time. And death metal was pretty much in its infancy, and hadn't developed into the bland homogenised slop that still goes by the term.

That's crazy because I have no idea what ranking I had in mind, or even what particular albums. Maybe the Excruciate (Swe) album, but even still I'd put Golem's debut above that. Possibly Fermenting Innards (German band) album.
BTW if you ever get the chance to see Demo Hammer or Dead Cong live, do so by all means necessary! Both destroyed at Netherlands Deathfest.
