Yeah man, the new SoP album is amazing. Right after, I listened to Noctambulant, then to Cabinet just to compare. And yeah, the new one is truly the better one of the three. Not sure if 5 stars is warranted though.
Yeah, I get what you mean. Not that it bothers me, but I also feel like every band kinda does that once they get mainstream. Once they realize that they're providing a "service", they feel the obligation keep doing what we're expecting from them. Honestly, I can't think of a single successful band (with at least 5 albums, say) that's not doing that. Btw, what are you doing these days during the holidays? Got any days off? We can definitely meet soon because I've been just sitting home and relaxing for the past week and still have about 2 weeks left before I get back to school. So if you wanna do something, let me know (by e-mail preferably).
I guess the reason why Colors is wearing off on you is a sympton of overplaying it. I try to limit my plays on my favourite albums, to make sure this doesn't happen. By about those bands you listed, I know just a few. Rush, I feel have been playing the same type of music forever (just the songs sound different). Enslaved is granted, but then again I don't think they're as widely known as BTBAM. Linkin Park changed their style and now they suck (widely accepted by the majority). It's just like the new Opeth, yes it's still good within the rock genre, but I listen to Opeth for a unique sound that I've been accustomed to for years, so the fact that they've changed it just disinterests me now. My most played albums have at most 16 plays for every track, how many times did you hear Colors? 50? 100? It's just normal that the same formula sounds so stagnant now because you know every second of every song by heart.
Reading your constructive comments, you sound like some philosopher or something. You should definitely pursue a career that relates to writing cuz you're amazing at that. Just my 2c.
