Hex grid
Genre
Hex grids are most commonly used in strategy and RPG, it features a playing area that is subdivided in hexagonal tiling with small regular hexagons of identical size. Compared to the traditional square grids, each cell only has 6 adjacent cells instead of 8 but allows for equal distance between each. Nobunaga's Ambition [信長の野望・全国版] is an early example of hex grids being used, and it's still common in 4X games like Sid Meier's Civilization VI and Humankind.
