Broughlike

Broughlike games are minimally designed roguelite games that simplify features from the roguelike genre. These features include turn-based gameplay in which you control a single character on a limited small grid, permadeath and procedural generation. Other characteristics include the inability to pass a move, use of positional tactics, and unconventional scoring systems. Oftentimes there's a singular mechanic that defines the gameplay to make it unique from other broughlike games that can take on the design of puzzle games.

The genre was developed in the 2010s and pioneered by Michael Brough which the genre name gets its moniker. Itch.io has held game jams based on this genre that has pushed the genre forward. Some broughlike games include 868-HACK and Imbroglio.
