Really loved this one. Konami's answer to R-Type, and while the Flint may not have as much utility or versatility as the R-9's Force pod, it's surprisingly useful to be able to block off avenues with its tentacles, and the combined charge attack is incredibly satisfying to use. Great soundtrack, cheesy anime cutscenes that remind me of Ys IV or Rondo of Blood, and some absolutely fantastic ship, enemy, and boss designs. The dragon boss at the end of stage 3 might be one of my favorite shmup bosses just because it retains the free-scrolling movement from the preceding stage, making it feel huge and exhilarating. Terrific game.
