Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

I played through the 2015 remaster of Turok a few years ago and it was great--Nightdive's upgrades and quality-of-life enhancements breathed new life into the game. Returning to the original N64 release, it's without doubt showing its age and is not always quite as pleasant an experience in comparison.

At its core, Turok remains an impressively huge, mature and ambitious game, especially for '97. It plays well, and though the controls can be daunting initially, they're intuitive and easy to master. The graphics are great, particularly the fantastic animation, which is stunning to this day.

It's the game's more archaic characteristics, later rectified or made less concerning by Nightdive, that dampen the experience: the levels are labyrinthine and almost void of directional cues, enemies respawn obscenely quickly and save points are few and far between.

Decent PC port of a slightly underrated N64 classic, this remaster firmly establishes Turok as finally having aged better than Goldeneye. Its brand of open level design was ambitious for the time and is still gratifying to play, but the pace can stumble just as easily as the level design liberates.

Pretty amazing game, and up there with the best fps of the 90's as far as im concerned. I have played the remastered pc edition, so im not sure if the original holds up as well graphically and in terms of framerate.

Love the big variety of weapons and gameplay, the complex level design and the pure crazyness that is the setting. You fight dinossaurs that shoot lasers at one point, the game couldnt be more 90's than that. It has an amazing combat flow and i got gripped to it until my eyes hurt.

Great stuff, though i did use a walkthrough occasionally to get the keys to move forward.
