New Blood is a decent extension of the Trauma Center formula, but it also represents a somewhat interesting footnote in games, with an effort to take the visual novel aesthetic and give it some proper, albeit distinctly game-like, production values, and also featured a great localisation with somewhat early roles from the likes of Troy Baker and Michael McConnohie. The story is a surprisingly interesting tale of two doctors hiding out in the Canadian backwoods being thrust back into the main conflict, which takes them all over the world and sees them face an impressive amount of danger. Combined with a greater sense of variety, it handily outclasses the original, not that it still isn't somewhat repetitive and ridiculous.

There's really nothing wrong with this as a sequel to Second Opinion, but it definitely feels a little iterative. There are some interesting new types of operations, and some really fun scenarios (The entire chapter about the surgery gameshow is solid gold), and most of the Stigma missions feel more varied and substantial than GUILT, but the majority of the missions are more of the same procedures from the first two games. Also, while the story is executed and presented better than the first game (special mention to the voice acting for the two lead doctors), I feel like it's not as ambitious or thought-provoking.
Also, much like Second Opinion, this game really starts to shine when you start shooting for XS ranks on every mission. This series provides some of the most unique and satisfying challenges I've seen on the Wii.
