Title
Your hero grabs a jet and uses it to fly up, down, left, and right: a predecessor to After Burner, but with some weird and fantastic shit, like stone golems, mechanical polyhedrons, Gundams and one-eyed mammoths, all packed in an explosive Flash Gordon-meets-Daicon IV firecracker. The rushing visuals will make your head spin but you can still anticipate the fire that will beset you and it's easy to dodge and shoot enemies. Only for its 18 short levels you can beat in 30 minutes it still manages to leave little variety as enemies repeat everywhere.

Setting it up to work on MAME is a bit tricky. It's best to use a mouse if you don't have a joystick and lower the sensitivity down to 30 on both axis. But I also like the controls on the Wii Virtual Console port, where you can use the nunchuck as a comfortable(although very jittery) joystick in similarity to the arcade stick. Allegedly the 3DS port should be the best control scheme by many, but I never tried it.

    it took 8 years for mainstream consoles to come out that could theoretically handle arcade quality ports of this (3DO, Jag, 32X). I can't think of any other arcade game that was that far ahead of consoles

    Even on GBA this game really blew me away. How were they doing this is the arcades way before anyone else was? Especially at that frame rate.
