Road 96:Mile 0 (I will be referring to this game simply by in future Mile 0) is tonal whiplash-filled mish-mash of gameplay concepts that completely removes what made Road 96 good. Just to briefly summarize my opinions on Road 96 I thought the games politics were laughably oversimplified and centrist, the characters while a bit flat were decently written, the music is amazing (quick side tangent to discuss the music in Road 96 The Road by Cocoon has genuinely instilled in me a dream of traveling across the Southwest US living out of a van, half the fun of starting a new escape attempt would be to hear that distorted driving synth that would play at the start and the Bella Ciao - Remix by Xillx absolutely slaps) and finally the gameplay which was a fascinating mix of RPG, rogue-lite, and survival elements that leads to tense and engaging gameplay loop. In conclusion, I felt genuinely positive about Road 96 enough to buy Mile 0 at about $5 and after playing it I believe that is the maximum one should pay for it.
