All of the MSX-original Gradius games (and Salamander) are solid if you can get past the stuttery scrolling and occasionally problematic sprite flickering. They've all got some unique ideas that don't show up elsewhere in the series and creative, memorable enemies and hazards. Unlike Nemesis 2 and Salamander though, this one feels like its ambition reaches just a hair too far for the platform to handle, and it suffers for it. Respect for effort, but it's not as tight a package as the previous two.
