It's really bizarre seeing a MegaTen game approached like a classic Final Fantasy-style SNES RPG. That said, they did a surprisingly good job with that format, although the game has a weird mix of decent overworld and environmental art with absolutely hideous in-battle sprites and UI design. It's far from a terrific game, but music was consistently pleasant, there were a decent number of memorable characters, and the story was surprisingly engaging and well-translated, enough so that I'm surprised it doesn't get talked about much.
"the game has a weird mix of decent overworld and environmental art with absolutely hideous in-battle sprites and UI design" For real, very inconsistent visuals in this game. The first town is actually kinda gorgeous for a SNES game, then a couple towns later you see a really ugly attempt at a shimmering water effect. The music, though, is pretty consistently beautiful. I'm surprised more people don't talk about how dark this game's story is. Last Bible is supposed to be the cute spinoff to SMT but every single time you boot it up you see the see the same cutscene of the guy's horse dying.
