Extraction was part of the obligatory first person rail shooter games that were going on in the horror game franchise in the mid-late 2000s. Hell Resident Evil had mild success with Umbrella Chronicles so Dead Space jumped on the band wagon after their first game. The only problem is Resident Evil was already an established franchise and had 5 main games plus a number of spin offs by the time they released Umbrella Chronicles where Dead Space really just had the first game. This is essentially unimportant side story that goes on when a crew unrelated to the main game series gets intertwined in the initial infection of the Ishimura. The characters in this really don't matter and its more or less a side story with characters who are unimportant. Its a little cool seeing the initial infection and things before they were really bad but I really didn't care enough. As far as gameplay its a competent on rail shooter that is more fun to play with a friend but it still doesn't stand out and is no better than worse than other games in this genre. This just feels unnecessary and like it was just made because they wanted to have an obligatory on rail game to cash in on. The first 2 Dead Space games are infinitely better than this and even the better moments of the 3rd games outshine this. This is more for diehard fans and even then the story is average at best and really has no consequence to the main franchise.
