Dagon: by H.P. Lovecraft

A decent overview of the main themes of H.P. Lovecraft, but nothing interesting or impressive. It simply falls flat.

+ Narrator voice is soothing and very fitting, reminds me of some of the older Lovecraft audiobooks.
- Lackluster environments - not only are the scenes (because they are just that) small and devoid of small detail, but they are also utterly boring, and do not leave anything to interpretation or imagination.
- The entire story is so short, you'd be forgiven to assume it was a demo version of something much larger.

Completed in 30 minutes.

Dagon is essentially a visual novel of a HP Lovecraft short story, taking around 30 minutes.

You have very limited camera control to pan the scene horizontally left and right, and you need to locate an object in the scene to proceed. Sometimes there's optional objects to find, including trivia; which achievements for collecting a certain amount of these. Some of these objects are in plain sight, whereas others require the use of zoom which is triggered by a Right-click.

In each scene a few lines of dialogue is spoken from the main character's perspective. Just like many short stories, there's a bit of build-up but once you feel like there's the basis of a decent story - it just ends abruptly with no real resolution.

There's some DLC packs which just seem like ways of optionally donating to the developer. You can get the ebook and audiobooks in a variety of formats as part of such DLC, but I suppose it is public domain material.

A short game based on a short story by HP lovecraft. You get that very iconic style of horror, portrayed mostly by straight narration. Unfortunatly the game uses a realistic style of 3d visuals, which take a lot of the horror of the setting and immersion. Its also presented as a kinetic visual novel, with the inability to move within the locales, make decisions or explore. Again, this takes a lot of the immersion of the setting, and feels like a cheap rollercoaster ride.
