Title
I don't really see the appeal of "lol game where u can do anything" where the "anything" is, like, two or three admittedly crazy builds. Hopefully something that grows with time; I liked the writing and combat, once I got the hang of it.

So like...did this just now leave an early access form? Cuz the game's been around for a while now but is listed as 2023.

the release date on the game's website is listed as 2023. though it was listed as 2022 back in 20222, 2021 back in 2021...

nope, its still early access, it seems like it's likely going to be released finally (with a finished main story arc) later this year or probably next year it seems like

Glitchwave doesn’t know how to treat early access games properly. Still crazy that Factorio is in the charts for a year years after even games it influenced came out
    • okayfrog 2023-08-01 01:43:59.46922+00
it's not just glitchwave that treats games that way. look at the wikipedia page for Factorio

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factorio

it lists its release as 2020 just like glitchwave.

@prenton do you want to see Baldur's Gate 3 in the 2020 charts lol?

There's no right way of doing this, some early access games have a lot of content and others do not. The devs call it when they consider it the release and there's no other objective way of dealing with these.

Never mind. Haven’t played BG3 and It’s not the place to have a debate on this really, but yeah BG3 has ratings back from 2020, based on a publicly released version of the game, which I assume, as it’s early access, was the full game as it was at the time. Of course it should be in the 2020 charts, early access releases aren’t demos or limited betas of part of the game. They’re full releases of the game as it was at the time available to buy by the public. Plenty of games expand, get fixed, patches or change after v1.0 too, it’s not really any different. WoW is a radically different game now compared to 2004.

We should discuss it on the forums not in a games chatbox though

But that’s how glitchwave already dors things. Episodic games or games which are released part by part already are in the charts for their first acts or part of the games release on glitchwave so I don’t understand what you’re trying to argue.

Kentucky Route Zero, Life is Strange, Telltale Games or countless other games we currently use the chart dates from their first acts release. Again, plenty of games released episodically or periodically nowadays and they are in the charts for their first episode or first act or part of the release. If Kentucky Routze Zero is in the 2013 chart because that’s the year it’s Act 1 came out or if Pathologic 2 is in the 2019 charts when only 1/3rd of the game has been released to date then of course Baldurs Gate 3 should be on the 2020 chart if that’s when it’s first act came out.

I just don’t see much of a logical argument to have games in any year chart other than their early access release with the way glitchwave charts work right now.. Early access is just a funding model, functionality it works no differently to countless other ”v1.0” releases for pc games in 2023. Almost any argument you can make against using the early access release also exists in countless other v1.0 releases, that’s how just modern pc gaming works.

Glitchwave is still using a 90s console gaming model of games release that a CD or cartridge comes out on a certain date..It’s like when classical music was being shoehorned into the album system on rym, before it finally got an overhaul. How modern digital download PC releases work needs a serious overhaul here to reflect how modern pc games are actually released.

I disagree. Early Access games are unfinished. To say that Baldur's Gate 3 should not chart in 2023 is ridiculous.

Very few of early access titles are fully fledged games, Rimworld and Factorio are much more of the exceptions.

Eh, as I said, this chatbox really isn't the place to discuss this, Caves of Qud is one of the best games ever and we shouldn't take up the chatbox with this, I'll make a post on the forums.

It's not ridiculous though, it's entirely in keeping with how glitchwave does things. Backloggd uses early access release dates because it's the only real logical argument if you're going to do the same for other types of releases, whether they're full or not. I already provided examples of games which were released unfinished and not as "fully fledged games" (an entirely subjective term) and it only takes a brief glance of steam or itch.io to find thousands of other examples. Some call them early access, some call them v0.1 instead of v1.0, some call them part releases or episodic releases and some just call them plain unfinished and in need of patches. They're all funded by people buying copies of the game though, it's all exactly the same thing.

And Rimworld and Factorio are very much not the exceptions. It is true of a great deal of early access games. Very few early access games are released at a point where you can't complete the game, they might still be buggy and they might be built upon, but most early access games are not just the first act or episode of the game, they are the great majority of the final game, which you can complete.

Don't understand the lack of RPGs in the genre page. This game is way more like a traditional tabletop TPG which offers a sandbox with systems to mess around with than 99% of video game RPGs

Traditional Roguelike is in the RPG tree.
    • ... 2023-12-21 16:31:38.597232+00
But that's only if you play it as a roguelike which most players don't. Most play the straight up RPG mode where it plays as a pretty classic RPG that is separate from roguelike.
