Feels like the first proper sequel to the NES Bomberman, in the sense that it actually introduces new mechanics and tries to explore the potential of the formula a little more. There's some actual semblance of level design so that not every stage is a simple uniform rectangular grid (although it still doesn't get too adventurous on that front), and the multi-hit enemies, new power-ups and fun - if easy - boss fights make it feel fresh. Unfortunately it didn't hold that feeling for more than the first couple of worlds, and after a while it kinda just felt like I was playing the first TG-16 Bomberman again with a couple more bells and whistles. But the standard Bomberman gameplay is so hypnotic that I don't consider that a huge knock against the game.
