I've always found the first four TwinBee games charming, particularly the third, but this is the first one that I'd say is really great. Some of those backgrounds are drop-dead gorgeous, and the soundtrack is candy. It'd be weird to say that a game with almost no story (and a shmup, no less) can have 'emotional depth', but I'd be lying if I didn't say that some of the scenery and tone can actually feel a little melancholy at times, despite being so energetic and colorful. It feels like this game's got a little more tonal range than just out-and-out absurd goofiness like the first few entries, though it's still got heaps of that too. It's just delightful.
