I used to rent Bass Hunter 64 a lot as a kid, just to mess around driving the boat and fishing for fun. In a way it's a bit of an extension of the fishing mini-game in Ocarina of Time, playing very similarly. In hindsight, Bass Hunter 64 is an impressively detailed simulator, with a heap of rod, line and lure types available for purchase with tournament points and switchable on the fly on the water. There's plenty of in-game help and detailed descriptions to assist novice players and lake conditions are described realistically, hinting at which equipment will bring the best chance of pulling in the biggest fish. The ability to freely drive the boat around the lake is a welcome feature, working well and adding depth to the gameplay rather than placing the player in a static location. The graphics are solid and the game's realistic, peaceful sound effects do a lot for its atmosphere. There's little wrong with Bass Hunter 64, but trudging through the tournament can be a drag and it's rarely exciting; fishing fans will love it though.
