Despite the popular image of this game as a rage-inducingly frustrating, the experience of playing this game is actually very serene. It is certainly difficult, but the tone is far more gentle and contemplative than the classic "rage games" of the past. Bennett's commentary, the gentle encouragement, the blues standards that play whenever you fall, and the very natural, hacked-together arrangement of the mountain you scale all contribute to a tone that is much more like a slow, determined trek up a real-world hill than a high-stakes conflict. You really learn to take failure in stride and see it not as a loss of progress, but as another step in your walk. You learn to be self-motivated and persistent. It's a simple message, but it's one which is both undersold in gaming, and one which can only be shown through the medium of gaming. I urge people who are turned off by the label of rage game to give this a try; it's incredibly rewarding.
