The idea that McLaren masterminded everything was of course the interpretation used when he died, all the news channels were reporting him as 'the man who created punk'.
The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle was a weird film, I never knew that was where the whole thing about Malcolm manufacturing the band came from. The guy clearly liked to exaggerate his own importance.
True. So are you not a fan of the The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle soundtrack, the stuff without Lydon? Though he was the band's essential component I still think the songs (e.g. 'No one is innocent') are great.
Makes sense, there is arguably an air of novelty (and a lack of cohesion) about the Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle soundtrack: parody disco, 50's rock 'n' roll covers and shock value songs with great train robbers. That album has a bit of the hard rock sound adopted by Cook and Jones in The Professionals also.

Re: Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition: JG Ballard is the author of the book, not William S. Burroughs. Also Burroughs is spelt "Burroughs", not "Burrows".
