Game collection
My interest in music had a strong beginning mostly due to my older brother having the local town rock band practice in our garage (circa 1968). These guys played Beatles, the who, the stones and anyone else they could imitate. Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the air" seemed to be a staple favourite.
When my brother left for University, I inherited his tiny portable record player. Wired up to an amp which boosted the power 1000% it saw me through until the ripe age of 14, by which time my after-school job had paid for the first major purchase of my life. An 8 watt stereo! My father wired up a headphone socket for it (for his sake rather than mine). I was buying an LP at the rate of 1 a week and music was what my friends and I lived for. Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Badfinger, Uriha Heep and Steppenwolf were all staple fare.
The record collection grew fast between the years of '71-77, but then started to decline as college living made demands on the finances. After college was marriage, career, kids, and although I still loved music, I had no time to actually purse new music. I tended to listen to my old rock antiques. It wasn't until the late 1990's that my life settled down, the kids were older and less demanding and the finances weren't as tight, that I started to again pursue my love of music. I've enjoyed discovering all the music of the late 80s and 90s that passed me by at the time. I'm still enjoying it, and try to keep up with the latest releases. To date I have 1100-odd albums and growing.
I also do a spot of acting/singing in local musicals when the opportunity presents itself.
Music is a large part of my personal spirituality! I couldn't imagine life without it.
