Lol. Thanks for giving my cantankerous ways some thumbs up. As for directors I'm pretty solid on, I'd say John Huston, Hitchcock, Wilder, and Kubrick more-or-less have it, though I'm not super-crazy about Clockwork Orange or Barry Lyndon. I like Mankewicz a lot, too.
Thanks - yeah I've only mostly seen what my parents were watching and general Russian classics but it's evident still. Do you have a favourite Soviet film?
Good picks - personally I've yet to see any Tarkovsky - maybe this summer, but Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Professions is probably my second favourite soviet comedy. I've upped my rating for Джентльмены удачи [Gentlemen of Fortune] after seeing it again over the new years. The film isn't that 'good' but some of the dialogue makes it amazing and a soviet staple.
